Run with Olympian Nikki Hiltz: Virtual Pride 5K Fundraiser for Trans Health

Get ready to lace up your running shoes and hit the virtual pavement! This October, queer power couple Olympian Nikki Hiltz (they/them) and their partner, professional middle-distance runner Emma Gee (she/her), are hosting the annual Pride 5K. This event, designed to raise money for LGBTQIA+ non-profits, is a celebration of love, acceptance, and the power of community. With Nikki’s inspiring storying gaining attention from mainstream Olympic media outlets, this is guaranteed to be the biggest and most impactful Pride 5K to date.

The Pride 5K is taking place on Saturday, October 12, 2024, with all proceeds directly supporting Point of Pride, an organization dedicated to providing essential gender-affirming care to trans folks. Participants can register for $40, which includes a race t-shirt and bib, and they can look forward to a sense of unity and belonging as they run or walk their 5K at their convenience.

This virtual 5K began in 2020 as a way to stay connected during the pandemic and quickly became a global movement. In its first year, the event raised an astounding $33,000 for The Trevor Project, with nearly 2,000 participants from around the world. This year, the Pride 5K is supporting the mission is to help the most vulnerable members of the LGBTQ community feel seen and supported through access to life-saving health and wellness services.

Point of Pride’s initiatives include the Annual Transgender Surgery Fund, which provides direct financial assistance to trans folks who cannot afford their gender-affirming surgery, and the HRT Access Fund, which, through Plume, offers 12 months of free medical care for trans folks seeking gender-affirming hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Additionally, the Electrolysis Support Fund provides financial assistance to trans femme individuals in need of permanent hair removal services, while the Free Chest Binders and Free Femme Shapewear programs provide specially-designed compression garments to those who cannot otherwise afford or safely obtain them.

This year’s Pride 5K not only raises essential funds but also highlights the importance of showing up as your true self and celebrating the diversity within the LGBTQIA+ community. Nikki and Emma have created a safe and welcoming space for everyone, and they’re inviting you to be part of this incredible journey. As Nikki says, “This event represents everything I hoped the Pride 5K would be: A safe space for people to show up as themselves.”

If you wish to donate more to this incredible organization, you can do so directly to Point of Pride. Your generosity will support their mission to provide access to life-saving health and wellness services, helping trans individuals feel seen and supported.

Mark your calendars for October 12th, and join the global community in celebrating National Coming Out Day on October 11th and the Pride 5K.

Let’s show the world that we belong anywhere we decide to be.
