Giving Thanks with EveryQueer’s VIQ: A Queer Family Dinner Party

The holidays are all about family — no matter what “family” looks like to you. On 11/11 we made a wish alongside 25 queers for EveryQueer’s VIQ A Queer Family Dinner. VIQ is a seated family-style lesbian dinner party that is transgender and nonbinary-inclusive. We featured 8 courses, an open bar, and zero out-of-touch conversations with your conservative uncle.

We gathered together at Cecconi’s Dumbo, part of Soho House, a modern-day classic Italian restaurant. Cecconi’s features stunning panoramic views of the New York City skyline, excellent cocktails, and a curated high-end ambiance. Together with our queer family of choice, we gave thanks to our beautiful and vibrant community.

For dinner, we enjoyed three appetizer courses, burrata with cherry tomatoes and aged balsamic, butter lettuce salad, and baked gnocchi Romana with gorgonzola. For the main entrees, we dined on rigatoni Maine lobster, filet mignon with roasted potatoes, and fusilli with kale pesto. And of course, we had to save room for dessert of tiramisu and lemon sorbet with mixed berries and lime.

The dishes were served family style which provided the perfect opportunity to meet new friends. Many of the guests came solo or were joined by one other person but by the end of the night information was exchanged and hugs were given all around. Each guest left with a special gift bag featuring their choice of a bottle of red or white wine or a bag of local coffee.
