LGBT Friendly Downtown Toronto Hotel: Delta Hotel

The Delta Hotel by Marriott is a sophisticated and contemporary four-star hotel located in downtown Toronto. We visited Toronto on a whirlwind trip because Meg was invited to speak at the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association Global Convention and the Delta Hotel was the ideal home base. This prime downtown location overlooks the waterfront and is directly across the street from the CN Tower as well as the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada.

This hotel not only has all the nuts and bolts that make a great hotel but they have a variety of extras that really set it apart from other hotels in Toronto at a similar price point. They have several incredible dining options within walking distance of the hotel. Plus, the Indoor pool and 24-hour fitness center are perfect for folks looking to burn off some energy while on the road.

The rooms are highlighted by an absolutely stunning view of the waterfront. The room felt bright and open with nearly floor to ceiling windows. My favorite feature was the deep soak bathtub with a large window so that you could enjoy your bath while taking in the Toronto views. Meg loved the “smart desk” feature when she was preparing for her presentation at the conference and I loved that there were tons of places to charge our devices which made things super easy. It sounds silly but you’d be shocked at how many hotels we stay at don’t have an adequate amount of outlets to charge our phones, camera gear, and computers at the same time. We’re used to setting alarms in the middle of the night to switch charging devices and here that wasn’t an issue. Delta Hotel is definitely equipped with the modern traveler in mind.

The location is what really sold it for us. We didn’t have a rental car and relied on public transit and Uber to get around. [By the way: If it’s your first time using Uber use the code qzb4r for your first ride free!] There are a ton of cool things to do within walking distance, so we were able to keep the Uber costs really low. Getting from the Toronto’s Pearson Airport to the Delta Hotel by Marriott could have not been easier or more cost effective. For just less the $20 US dollars for two tickets we took the 25-minute airport train ride to Union Station. From there the walk is only a couple blocks so completely walkable even with luggage.

The lobby of Delta Hotel is stunning and home to their on-site Mediterranean restaurant at SOCO Kitchen+Bar. You have the option to eat in their gorgeous dining room or on the beautifully appointed patio deck overlooking the city. Either way, you win when you order their whipped ricotta appetizer – it was absolutely delicious. If you’re down for a drink check out the onsite premium Whisky Bar, Char No.5.

They serve 60 different varieties of Canadian Whiskeys. Try their handcrafted Boulevardier Cocktail. It’s made with Lot No. 40 Rye Whisky, Campari, Sweet Vermouth, and orange zest served up. It’s straight out of Harry McElhone’s ABC of Mixing Cocktails from 1922. While the cocktails are throwbacks, the bar itself is anything but old school.

LGBT Friendly?

Toronto is one of the top cities for LGBT traveler in the world. It’s so LGBT friendly that Delta has its own guide for LGBT travelers in the Toronto area. Delta Hotel is owned by Marriott International which was one of the first hotel groups in the world to offer diversity and inclusion protection policies for LGBT staff members plus they give a boatload of money to LGBT nonprofits around the world and are a major player in contributing to the fight for equal rights worldwide.
