Girls in Wonderland: 23 Years of Sunshine, Music, and Pride Return to Orlando
Mark your calendars, Girls in Wonderland (GIW), the Sunshine State’s biggest lesbian festival, is back for its 23rd anniversary. This iconic event will take place at a brand new location, TownePlace Suites Orlando from May 30th to June 3rd, 2024.
More Than Just a Party
GIW isn’t just about dance parties (though there will definitely be some epic ones!). Founded in 2000 by the powerhouse lesbian trio behind Pandora Events, Amy Alonso, Alison Burgos, and Yesenia Leon, GIW has become a beloved tradition. It’s a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community to gather, celebrate, and be themselves. Past events have featured influential artists, celebrities, and changemakers, and this year promises to be no different, with a lineup including internationally acclaimed artists, DJs, and local gems like Snow Tha Product, Chloe Star, Gabby B, and more.
This year, GIW goes beyond the party with a purpose. The event partners with the non-profit organization Our Rainbow Nest Inc., an informational resource dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ individuals and couples start families. They provide resources for those interested in adoption, surrogacy, and more.
Fighting for the Sunshine State
Florida has been at the center of the LGBTQ+ rights movement, and Girls in Wonderland remains committed to the community. In the face of recent anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, the event founders emphasize the importance of creating a safe space. “We are born and raised Florida girls,” says Alison Burgos, “and we’re not going to run away or back down. We’ve been fighting for LGBTQ+ equality for 23 years, and that fight continues.”
