Air travel can be stressful enough without having to worry about finding a safe place to go the bathroom along the way. Many trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming travelers find that finding a place to use the bathroom is a constantly stressful part of their travel experience. This conversation is happening most frequently in the US and has been a hot button political issue for years now. Locating a gender-neutral bathroom can be a crucial factor in making airport experiences comfortable both physically and emotionally.
The good news? More and more airports across the U.S. are implementing gender-neutral or single-user restrooms, offering a more inclusive and accessible environment for all passengers. Whether you’re passing through a major hub like LAX or flying out of a regional airport, knowing where to find these facilities can make all the difference.

For the simple reason of wanting as many people as possible to find safe bathrooms, this list includes all gender bathrooms, single stall bathrooms, and family bathrooms.
Why Gender-Neutral Bathrooms Matter
If you’re here reading this list, you probably already get it, but if not. Gender-neutral bathrooms are more than just a convenience; they’re a necessity. For many LGBTQ+ travelers, especially nonbinary and trans individuals, traditional gendered restrooms can be uncomfortable or even unsafe. Having access to an all-gender restroom means not having to choose between two options that may not align with your identity, reducing stress and potential harassment. Beyond that, they provide inclusive spaces for parents with children, caregivers assisting others, and anyone who simply values privacy. Airports are finally catching on to the need for these facilities, and we’ve compiled a list of 35 U.S. airports where you can find them.
