Listen, some places just feel right. Vancouver, British Columbia, is one of them. The air smells like a mix of saltwater and pine trees, the city lights shimmer against a mountain backdrop, and the vibes are so incredibly inclusive you can’t help but feel at home. It’s a city that nails the balance between urban cool and wild nature, making it the perfect spot for a queer people to escape for a long weekend. I just got back from a whirlwind four-day trip, and trust me, you’ll want to steal our itinerary. It’s got adventure, amazing food, and a deep dive into the city’s queer history. Let’s go!
Day 1: Hello, Yaletown & Hot Chicken on the Beach
We kicked things off by checking into the OPUS Vancouver. This isn’t just a hotel; it’s a whole mood. The design is so chic and vibrant, and the location in Yaletown is perfect. We dropped our bags, got settled, and immediately felt that vacation glow. For dinner, we headed to Kitsilano Beach for a truly Vancouver experience. The star of the show, though, was the food from DownLow Chicken. Seriously, this place is a cult favorite for a reason. Their Nashville-style hot chicken is crispy, spicy, and everything you want after a day of traveling. Eating incredible food we headed down to the beach to enjoy the sunset over the water—it was the perfect way to start our trip.
Day 2: Soaring Above the City and Savoring Spice
Day two was all about getting our adrenaline pumping. We grabbed the free shuttle from downtown and headed to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. You know you’ve seen the photos, but nothing prepares you for the real thing. The main bridge sways 70 meters above the river, and it’s a total thrill. Afterward, we tackled the Treetops Adventure, a series of mini suspension bridges high up in the canopy, and the Cliffwalk, which is exactly what it sounds like: a walkway clinging to the side of a cliff. It was a beautiful, heart-pounding morning.

Next, we went even higher. We zipped over to Grouse Mountain, a Vancouver must-do. The Skyride up the mountain offers insane panoramic views. Once we were at the top, we went straight for the Mountain Zipline. It was an absolute rush, flying through the air with a breathtaking view of the city and mountains. Besides the zipline, Grouse has everything from a lumberjack show to grizzly bear habitats. It’s a whole adventure park in the sky!
After all that excitement, we were ready for a cozy, romantic dinner. We found it at Moltaqa Moroccan Restaurant. The place is beautiful, and the food is just so flavorful. We shared a tagine, sipped on some amazing drinks, and enjoyed the live performances from the belly dancers. The spices were so fragrant, and the food was incredibly nourishing—the perfect end to an action-packed day.
Day 3: Queer History, Gin, and Seaplanes
We started our day with breakfast at Mon Pitou, a little slice of Paris in Vancouver. This adorable LGBTQ+ owned french cafe is too cute for words. The pastries and coffee were a great way to fuel up for what was a very special day.

Then, for a truly meaningful experience, we went on The Really Gay History Tour with Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours. I’m telling you, this tour is a game-changer. Our guide brought Vancouver’s queer history to life, from two-spirit warriors to drag kings. It was powerful, educational, and a beautiful celebration of the people who paved the way.
For lunch, we headed straight for the heart of Davie Village, Vancouver’s gay neighborhood, and grabbed a table at Barra Gitano. The vibe is laid-back and lively, and the Mexican and Latin American food is incredible. Their handcrafted cocktails are made with premium agave spirits, and trust me, they’re worth it.
Next, we did a little tasting at Copperpenny Distilling Co. Their craft spirits are seriously next-level. We tried their gin and a few of their unique liqueurs, and it was so cool to see their passion for creating world-class spirits. We loved their philosophy of putting a “taste of place” in a bottle.
The afternoon’s main event was a scenic seaplane tour with Harbour Flights. Seeing Vancouver from the air is a whole new experience. The cityscape, the mountains, the ocean—it’s all so stunning. It was a romantic and unforgettable way to see the city from a different perspective.

We finished the day with dinner at Gina’s, a queer owned hot spot with amazing food and an electric energy. It was the perfect place to talk about everything we’d seen and done, and to feel the love that radiates from this city.
Day 4: A Sweet Goodbye
Our final day was all about taking it easy. We had one last delicious breakfast, packed up our bags, and said a fond farewell to the OPUS. As we headed to the airport, we were already talking about our next trip back.
Vancouver is one of those places that gets under your skin in the best way. It’s a city that celebrates love, adventure, and community, and it’s absolutely perfect for a queer couple looking for a getaway. Go, experience it for yourselves, and fall in love with this incredible city!
